“Be culturally literate, because if you don’t have any understanding of the world you live in and the culture you live in, you’re not going to express anything to anybody else.” — Paula Scher

How do people perceive Graphic Design?

Whenever someone hears about Graphic Design, they think of it as a skill to move and organise letters and objects in the persuit of the designs being visually appealing. This version of Graphic Design is sufficient if you want to explain Graphic Design to a 5 year old. However, most people don’t recognise that Graphic Design is a whole world on its own.

With Great Power, Comes Great Responsibility

Graphic Design is a field of power and high responsibility. The Designers have the power to deliver strong and compelling visual messages and implement ideas that can generate and inspire different feelings and emotions and can influence our cultures and traditions. It is a gateway to communicate effectively.

Currently, Graphic Design is in a period of exponential expansion. Just look around you, Graphic Design is everywhere — the tech in which you’re reading this article has some graphic elements, the pen and notebook I’m using to finalise this article has some graphic elements. We’re surrounded by Graphic Design. Moreover, the fact that in this information age, with the knowledge being available just a few clicks away, it really enhances the degree to which the designs can be subjective, is really fascinating!

Graphic Design provides us an oppurtunity to be a part of something that can help us to fullfill our duty towards our community by expressing and communicating value to the world.
